Howard D. Bidwell was born on January 1, 1930, to Howard E. Bidwell and Corinne Clapp Bidwell in East Hartford, Connecticut. He died quietly on Tuesday, November 16, 2010, at home.

Howard D. Bidwell Education Background

After graduating from East Hartford High School, Howard went to Bucknell University to pursue a B.S. in civil engineering. After graduating, he was commissioned in the US Navy’s Civil Engineer Corps.

Howard founded Consolidated Precast, Inc. in 1966 to manufacture architectural precast concrete. It was originally located in Farmington before relocating to Thomaston in 1986. He was a well-known figure in his field and the Architectural Precast Association’s president.

He was a longtime Republican Town Committee member and member of the Zoning Board of Appeals for Farmington. In addition, he was one of the founding members, a three-time Paul Harris Fellow, and past president of the Farmington Rotary Club.

He had also attended Farmington’s First Church of Christ, Congregational, for a long time. Howard grew up around his father’s love of sailing and continued this tradition as an adult by becoming a member of the Baldwin Yacht Club and the Off-Soundings Club.

In addition to enjoying cruising, Howard was an excellent racer. In his division, he won the “Daytona Beach to Bermuda Race” three times.

His seven grandkids include Joanna and Scott Bender, John and Katie Bidwell, Rachel and Rebekah Williams, and Addison Sansone. He previously wed Fabiola Bidwell of Farmington and Virginia Pocock of Lebanon.

Additionally, he leaves behind his Farmington-based brother Wayne Bidwell, his wife Martha, and their daughter Amelia.
