Who is Orlando Tive?
“Baby Lane” Anderson, an American gang member, appears to be the primary suspect in Tupac Shakur’s death. Anderson was a member of the California-based gang known as the South Side Compton Crips.
Orlando Anderson Death
On May 29, 1998, Orlando Tive was shot during a firefight involving gangs in Compton. He died at Martin Luther King Jr. Harbor Hospital in Willowbrook, California. Anderson was killed in a separate gang shootout when he was 23 years old.
Brennan would later assert that Anderson’s murder was the product of a quarrel over drug money with a rival gang and had nothing to do with the Shakur case.
The Murder of Tupac Shakur
In July 1996, Anderson and his gang attacked Trevon Lane and stole his Death Row medallion in the Lakewood Mall during an altercation. There were allegations that Death Row medallions were the target of a bounty placed by their enemies, the Compton Crips, of whom Anderson was a well-liked member. This behavior was so rude that Suge Knight, Tupac Shakur, and the rest of Death Row were incensed. He sustained injuries.
After the Bruce Seldon vs. Mike Tyson fight on September 7, 1996, Trevon Lane saw Anderson by himself in the MGM and told Tupac and the other members of the Death Row crew that Anderson had stolen their medallion.
Later that month, Orlando Anderson is not being investigated by Las Vegas homicide detective Lt. Larry Spinosa for the shooting death of Tupac Shakur. Anderson was subsequently named as a suspect.Rumors circulated that the rapper had been shot, which he subsequently refuted in an interview with VIBE magazine. In September 1997, Anderson told the Los Angeles Times that he was an admirer of Shakur and his music, but he maintained that he was not the murderer.
In Compton, California, Anderson and twenty-one other suspected gang members were taken into custody one month after Shakur was shot. He was never put on trial. The arrest had only a tenuous connection to the shooting that killed Tupac, as Compton police insisted that they were investigating local shootings rather than the one in Las Vegas.Anderson was ruled out as a suspect by Las Vegas police because of the brief time span between Shakur’s assault on him in the MGM Grand lobby and the shooting, as reported in a Los Angeles Times article.
