Reid moved to New York City in January 2010 after working as an intern for the Investigative Unit of CBS News. Beginning in June of that year, she spent a year as a production secretary for CBS Evening News. From 2011 until 2014, Reid was a digital journalist based in New York.

In order to work as a reporter for CBS News covering the Justice Department, Reid moved to Washington, D.C. in 2014. In 2016, Reid covered the email crisis involving Hillary Clinton. She was one of the few reporters present in Charlottesville, Virginia, during the Unite the Right demonstration that prompted Governor Terry McAuliffe to proclaim a state of emergency.

She was in charge of CBS News’s coverage of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation. She also began filling in as a White House correspondent in 2017. During a White House press conference, News Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders stated that President Trump has the authority to fire Mueller if he so chooses. Reid brought up the fact that this was against the law. “You stated that the president believes Robert Mueller can be fired. The majority of legal experts believe that he would have to order Rod Rosenstein, the deputy attorney general, to fire Mueller because Rosenstein might, of course, refuse.”

She pressed Trump on his border policies. This required proving that, despite what Trump said, the Trump administration’s family separation policy was different from previous administrations’ approaches because it entailed bringing criminal charges against all border crossers.
